A DBA – Doctor of Business Administration, is a professional Doctorate in business degree that is on par with a PhD in every way, including awarding the title of ‘Doctor’ upon successful completion. The difference is that a DBA emphasises on the practical over the academic; research methodologies are used to analyse and solve real world business challenges. While the PhD – Doctor of Philosophy – is the most well known doctorate degree, and can be awarded for a range of disciplines such as a PhD in management, PhD in Business, humanities, art, the sciences etc. On the other hand, A DBA doctorate degree is highly focused on management and business, making it optimally suited to senior directors, CEOs, managers and business professionals.

A doctoral degree, also called a doctor’s or doctorate degree, has its etymology in the latin word docere, which means “to teach”. This is the highest academic qualification that a University awards and confers upon the awardee the distinction that they have the knowledge and skills to teach at a University level in their chosen field of study. There are many doctorate degrees today, some heavily professionally focused while others are more academically focused, but all of them being equal in level, research intensity and qualification.
